7 “Must Haves!” for your new custom home

September 03, 2021 Cincinnati Builder News 446 Hits

The saying “the sky’s the limit” certainly applies when building a custom home because what you include is entirely up to you. There’s nothing quite like knowing that everything – from the floor plan to the lighting fixtures – was designed with your lifestyle in mind.

But choosing what to include in your new home can seem like a daunting task. While some trends won’t stick around for long (faux wood paneling, anyone?), others, like energy-efficient, eco-friendly appliances, are here to stay and can enhance the quality of your life for decades to come.

To help you choose, here are seven of our “must haves” to include in your custom home.

Fabulous kitchen finishes. We spend a considerable amount of time in the kitchen every single day, so make sure it’s one that’s comfortable and inviting. Start with custom cabinetry that elevates your kitchen’s aesthetic while also making it more functional. For a more minimalist look, swap some of the cabinetry for open shelving.

Other features to consider include a cozy, sunlight-filled breakfast nook by a window, an oversized island, custom lighting, smart appliances, and a small wine cellar.

A bonus room (or two). One of the greatest benefits of living in a custom home is knowing that it will fit your lifestyle for generations. This is where bonus rooms come in. This is a room that can be easily modified to serve a different purpose as your needs change.

You could use the room as a home gym or yoga studio, for example, then change it up and use it for something else. Or make it a room for entertaining and watching movies, complete with surround-sound and comfortable seating. Bonus rooms can also do double-duty, by serving as study and a guest bedroom, for example.

An amazing garage. Today’s garages aren’t just places to park your car and store recreation equipment. They can also be designed to include extra space for everything from entertaining to studying. Be sure to add great custom storage in your garage and incorporate smart garage technology for extra safety and convenience. We also recommend having a heated garage that can keep your car running smoothly in the colder months.

An excellent security system. Nothing is more important than having a safe and secure home where you and your family can feel protected. That’s why a great security system is paramount for your custom home. Luckily, today there are a number of great home security systems that will send alerts to your phone, allowing you to monitor your home from anywhere in the world.

These custom home security systems feature everything from surveillance cameras to back up systems in case of a power outage. Take a look at our article ranking the top five security systems.

A luxurious master bathroom. What a year it’s been! But then, you don’t need to be living in 2021 to understand the importance of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. The good news is that with the right master bathroom you can escape without leaving your home. Start with a freestanding bathtub, and choose custom bath fixtures, soothing lighting and other finishes like a marble vanity or flooring.

A bigger mudroom. Forget the closet sized mudroom of yesterday. Instead, treat it like the important room it truly is. Today’s mudrooms feature custom cabinetry, cubbies, a seating area, a great sink, and even a washer and dryer. Don’t forget to choose easy to clean flooring (that’s also great looking), and plenty of extra space for pet supplies, shoes and boots and cleaning supplies.

Green technology. Classic Living Homes is proud to be a LEED certified builder. This means that we can build homes that are designed to reduce indoor air pollutants, and we use appliances that add less volatile organic compounds (VODs) to the air. Additionally, our LEED certified homes are designed to be energy-efficient and air-tight and are fitted with the appliances that carry the energy star-rating.

Still not sure what to include in your custom home? That’s where we come in. The team at Classic Living Homes is all about helping Cincinnati homeowners build the home of their dreams, and we’re ready to build yours, too.
